Food is Where the Fun is

We are all encouraged to Eat Nourishing foods, watch what we eat, and eat in moderation. However, what do people like to do most when we get together on special occasions and holidays? We all like to get together and indulge on foods that taste good, despite the nutritional value.

Whether it’s a birthday party, anniversary, a cookout on the fourth of July or the many Christmas parties you are invited to per year. Food is on the agenda.

We look forward to that slice of birthday cake with a nice helping of our favorite ice cream (It doesn’t matter if it is your own party or somebody else’s). On Thanksgiving we load up on turkey with all the trimmings, and indulge on left overs for the rest of the week. Of course, at Christmas who doesn’t like to nibble on a plate of Christmas cookies with a side of hot chocolate filled with marshmallows and topped with whipped cream?

It’s nice to get together and enjoy good food with the people we love, but there is no reason why we can’t incorporate healthier food choices. I’m tired of being overweight and unhealthy. I need to find some good healthy recipes. Someone suggested that I find some good Paleo Diet Recipes.

I also thought that a good start might be to serve a nice veggie or fruit tray at parties. Maybe making a carrot cake or adding zucchini into a cake mix would be a good idea. Maybe at parties where ice cream is served I can substitute frozen yogurt or sorbet for ice cream. Maybe instead of hot chocolate and eggnog at Christmas time, we can have hot cider or peppermint tea.

I need to look online for other tips and recipes. Someone suggested making a skinless turkey on Thanksgiving is very healthy. I am just trying to keep my eyes open for different ideas that are not too drastic but can still make a difference.
